Eddy is the newest brainchild of the team at edm8ker, a Singapore-based education consultancy. edm8ker’s mission is to empower educators to leverage the full potential of maker education, so that every child can have access to a brighter future. We do so by developing full-suite teacher professional development programs and education content, in almost 40 countries worldwide.
EDM8KER’S HISTORY
We were born on a trip to Cambodia - specifically, a service expedition to reach underserved communities in the rural interior. As a university student on this trip, one of our founders (Pin Qi) noticed that schools there lacked the resources and professional development to maximise the potential of their students. A similar situation is arguably underway in many parts of the world, even those considered “well-served” by traditional metrics. Even amongst schools with full 1:1 device access, how many can say that they are fully exploiting the affordances and opportunities brought about by technology?
FROM MAKER EDUCATION TO EDTECH
We designed Eddy to bridge this gap, and address this central issue: how can we support teachers around the world to use emerging technologies in their classroom, particularly when the predominant narrative is that these technologies face a steep learning curve? Eddy taps on edm8ker’s background in tech-infused content, maker education and teacher professional development.
